I think there was more description of how Kit saw each of the other characters than there was interaction between them and Kit or other characters that showed who they were.

We get to know the other characters in Dear Killer through Kit’s eyes. However, while reading it didn’t bother me that other than this goal I had no real idea of where the book was headed because just reading about Kit’s double-life as the Perfect Killer was enough. Kit has one clear goal that she is working toward throughout most of the book, but that never felt like the main focus of the story. I constantly found myself intrigued while reading Dear Killer. On rare occasions it felt disjointed anda bit too simplistic, but for the most part it really helped me to become absorbed in the story because of its descriptiveness. And of course, it made it possible to like her rather than see her as a monster.ĭear Killer is written in a way that I believe reflects how Kit thinks, very detail-oriented, observant, and succinct. Before reading Dear Killer I had never heard of moral nihilism, but the way it is described by Kit and her thoughts about it in the book made it very easy to understand why she’s able to murder so easily. Kit is a moral nihilist, and that is essentially how she justifies her murders throughout most of the book. Kit was a really interesting character to read about, and even though she was a serial killer I never once found her unlikeable. Dear Killerwas intense, it was and wasn’t what I was expecting. I’m writing this review right after having finished reading Dear Killer and I’ve honestly just been left stunned. Katherine Ewell’s Dear Killer is a sinister psychological thriller that explores the thin line between good and evil, and the messiness of that inevitable moment when life contradicts everything you believe.

Her moral nihilism and thus her murders are a way of life―the only way of life she has ever known.īut when a letter appears in the mailbox that will have the power to topple Kit’s convictions as perfectly as she commits her murders, she must make a decision: follow the only rules she has ever known, or challenge Rule One and go from there. The letters and cash that come to her via a secret mailbox are not a game choosing who to kill is not an impulse decision. Kit takes her role as London’s notorious “Perfect Killer” seriously.
